We are so thankful for the generous hearts and souls within the New York City District Council of Carpenters, and for the toys they donated to TBHC. It's never fun to stay in a hospital, but it's especially challenging during the holiday season. These toys have brought joy, FUN, and holiday cheer to our pediatric patients. On behalf of the kids, their families, and our wonderful staff at TBHC: Thank you, thank you!!!

TBHC's Wellness Thought of the Week

How can I survive the holidays without sacrificing my health?
Whether you are attending a holiday work function, a friend’s New Year’s Eve party or having friends and family over to your house this holiday season, try using these tips to help you stay on track:
1. Do not starve yourself so you can eat more later! Eat small nutritious meals the day before and day of the event to prevent overindulging during the event
2. Scan the buffet table before you enter the line. Choose small servings of the foods you really want and follow the plate method – ½ the plate veggies and fruit, ¼ protein and ¼ grain/starch
3. Bring a dish that fits into your diet for everyone to share
4. Know who your supporters are, as well as your saboteurs – spend time with those who support your healthy lifestyle and limit time with friends and family members who you know will temp you with bad habits
5. Make time for physical activity – go for a morning walk or plan a quick workout before the main event so you do not have to think about it later
6. Avoid getting too stressed out – take at least 10 minutes for yourself to relax and recharge each day

TBHC has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as among the #besthospitals in heart failure care! From Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at U.S. News, “U.S. News evaluates nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide. A hospital that emerged from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of.”
Gary Terrinoni, TBHC's President and CEO added, "The Brooklyn Hospital Center is incredibly proud to have earned the prestigious distinction of being evaluated as among the best hospitals in heart failure care by U.S. News & World Report. Our physicians, nurses, and staff work extremely hard to provide the highest quality care to our heart failure patients, and this recognition demonstrates it. Across TBHC, we are committed to providing the best care possible and keeping Brooklyn healthy.”
Reverend Clinton Miller of Brown Memorial Baptist Church in his own words on why he supports TBHC:
"As far as health care is concerned, we have one of the finest options in the borough right down the way. Many of my congregants were born there, others turn to this place in times of a dire emergency. In all cases, however, our friends and family have tremendous peace of mind knowing The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) is there.
We don’t need to worry about having to travel into Manhattan to feel like we’re getting world-class medical treatment at TBHC. One reason for the confidence in TBHC is the people. The people who make The Brooklyn Hospital Center great are the same people who make Brooklyn great."

The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) and Project Sunshine hosted a fun reading of “Duck for President” today, with author Doreen Cronin. She read her bestselling children’s book, “Duck for President,” to outpatient pediatric health center patients as part of Project Sunshine’s book club program. The children learned about the importance of reading, as well as engagement in elections and their community. We were blown away by how much they knew about the 2016 presidential election!
